BULL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Our breeding program for the last several years has steadily improved our genetics to where our cattle can go into most any program, foundation seedstock or commercial, and do an excellent job for our customers. We are providing all data to the customer that we have submitted to AHIR including the ultrasound information that we have done at the time the animals are at the proper ages. While we still want to do better, we feel progress is steadily being made.

In developing our bulls, we have tried several different methods. At this time, we are enrolling our bulls for performance testing in the Red River Angus Association of Gainesville, TX. We feel that the development in a much larger contemporary group will give us more accurate data by being compared to bulls from other breeders to confirm our program. We will receive data for our performance gain in the 100-day test. Within 7 days following the closing of the test, every bull will have ultrasound data taken. The contemporary group will be kept together on grass and wheat pasture for several more months until the sale date where they can be sold in one of the association-designed sales. The sale will feature only the top 70% of the bulls tested.

We will still have several bulls fed here at the farm. This will not be "culls" as they will be some that just do not fit the ages required for the group test. They will have the same data taken; ultrasound and daily rates of gain here on the farm. At this time, these bulls will be marketed private treaty as well as through a commercial female sale sponsored by the association. This will give us another comparison, as our facilities require that we feed the bulls by hand daily, instead of free choice. Each bull will be fed approx. 20 lbs. of a 14% bull ration daily, split between morning and afternoon feedings, and will receive the same health program as our project bulls. We will anxiously await our results from this program.
