Our breeding program for the last several years has steadily improved our genetics to where our cattle can go into most any program, foundation seedstock or commercial and compliment and in many cases improve the existing program in place. We are providing all data to the customer that we have submitted to AHIR including the ultrasound information that we always have done at the time the animals are at the proper ages.
Our next improvement will be the Genestar data on tenderness and feed efficiency.
In developing our bulls, we have tried several different ways. We have enrolled them in an all breeds test, we have used, to some extent an all Angus test conducted by the Red River Angus Association also.
We have found that we feel we have better data and performance if we do it on our Ranch. We especially think the "docile" way that we treat all bulls helps in bull disposition as well as better performance during the test.
We have a 90 day test in which we weigh the bulls every 30 days. The feed ration is developed by Tony's Feed and Seed of Muenster, Texas. We have worked closely with these folks, and feel we have exactly the ration we need.
Bulls are fed from 15 to 20 pounds of the ration daily. We have found that this gives us ample gain without getting overly fat.
We sincerely believe that our bulls will be ready to go to work for our customers without "falling apart" when placed on grass with the cattle. We are constantly reviewing the progress. We will adjust whenever needed to get the best results.
